Kailash Satyarthi is a pioneer in the global movement against child labour. In addition to its established organization and trademark Rugmark Kailash directs the “Global March against child labour”, an Association of 2,000 social organizations and trade unions in 140 countries.
1983 founded Kailash Satyarthi movement Bachpan Bachao Andolan’s – save childhood movement and Rugmark – a carpet trade organization, guaranteeing fair practices and a ban on child labor. In recent decades, these movements have saved more than 80,000 children before slavery, human trafficking and exploitative labour. By the influence of consumer behavior, Kailash succeeds to influence corporate behavior and to establish new business practices and spread. In the past ten years, his innovative approach has led to the decreased child labor in South Asia by 70 percent and over one million forced laborers were released. In addition he led a nation-wide movement with the aim of education a right protected by the Constitution to make – an impulse that has opened the way for the right of children to free and compulsory education, which is there in India since 2009.
Kailash was recorded already 21 years ago when Ashoka Fellow in the international network of Ashoka. He is the second social entrepreneurs in the global network of Ashoka, which awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
